Coming up: Valentine's Day!

Love, sweet love!  Chocolate dobash cake, hearts, and a personalized message...what a fabulous way to express your love to someone special!

Ever heard of dobash cake?  The concept originates from Hungary as the Dobos torte, but has evolved since bakers in Hawaii put their twist on it.  The Dobos torte, named after its creator, was composed of several layers of thin sponge cake filled with chocolate buttercream, and topped with a caramel glaze.  The Hawaiian version, which is where I have taken my inspiration from, is a chocolate chiffon cake, filled and covered with a thick, pudding-like chocolate frosting and dusted with chocolate cake crumbs.

Trust me, this stuff is so delicious, I find myself smiling like a fool when I bake it up!  Please e-mail me if you are interested in ordering this cake!

Coming up: Chinese New Year!

In celebration of the upcoming Chinese New Year (January 23rd), I decided to create these orange-flavored cupcakes with orange cream cheese frosting, topped with symbolic fondant decorations.  In the Chinese culture, the oranges are a symbol of wealth, and are often displayed throughout homes and stores.  I decorated half of the cupcakes with two oranges and a flower, which is also an important symbol during New Year.  Some of the cupcakes are topped with the Lai-See, or Hong-Bao, envelopes, which are filled with money and usually given to children and young adults, similar to the spirit of giving during Christmastime.

Happy (Early) New Year!
Gong Xi Fa Cai (Mandarin) or Gong Hei Fat Choi (Cantonese)

Please e-mail me if you are interested in ordering these cupcakes!
